We get asked all the time about "the best time for 4d images or gender".
It's a difficult question because each person and pregnancy are very
different. Like everything else in medicine there are few "guarantees", but
we can offer recommendations based on lots of experience and specialized
training in these types of scans. "Recommendations" doesn't mean we won't
see you outside of them, but if you're within our recommendations you have
access to other benefits such as no recharge return visits, discounts, or
extended time in the event things are more difficult.
16wks on forward. After 35wks sometimes genders can be tricky due
to the size of the baby at the point.
Gestational age 23-30 wks is the recommendation for this. If
you want to do 4D scans either before or after this recommendation it
doesn't mean you can't get good images, it just means we may not be able to
offer you the same consolation options if the baby is not in the position
What factors make one scan better then another?
- Gestational age of the baby
- Position of the baby: Head up, head down, face up, face down, hands, feet,
cord, placenta position.

- Tissue density with the mom can affect our ability to get crisp images of
We use the best equipment and have experienced top quality techs who can
work through many issues to get great images. However, it is important to
remember we are limited by physics and this is why our recommendations are
important to note, to ensure we have the best chance to get a great scan

with this package. Gender scans set a very high standard and we cannot meet
that standard with the parameters of this package.
Gender: 16wks to any point forward.
Why 16wks? There are many factors that affect the outcome of each scan. We
set a very high standard for our genders sessions. We are saying we will
get your babies gender accurate no matter how many tries. At 16wks we will
get 95% plus of our people the accurate gender in a single try, which is
great for us and our clients. At 18 wks our expectation is 99% gender
determinations in a single try with 1/5000 giving us any difficulty. So if
your driving a long distance, as close to 18wks as possible will increase
your chances of getting your desired result in one try.
4D Imaging does NOT improve gender determination, so there is
no need to
upgrade to that package
if gender is your #1 concern.
Economy: 21-35 wks.
Scans 30-35 weeks tend to be either really great or can get pretty
squished so they are a bit more of a gamble. This package is designed for people who are maybe a little earlier in the
gestational age, or a bit further along. Babies prior to 23wks and over 30
wks can present some unique challenges, we always want people to have a
proper expectations of their appointment. Gender DETERMINATION (gender
before 20 wks) is NOT included in the economy package. Gender CONFIRMATION
(gender after 20 wks) IS included at no extra charge.
Platinum Package: 23-31 wks.
This package either before 23 wks (the time
the babies start looking like babies) and after 31 wks is not recommended.
(As pregnancies get past 30 wks the babies really fill out quickly and can
start to get squished). This session has extra time with it, and we want to
make sure we have enough to look at. Babies early or late have limited
options to look at things during your scan.
Platinum Plus Package:
Session one: 22-26 wks.
Session two: 26-31 wks.
We recommend only booking the first appointment of this package and after
we see you and can better asses all the anatomy of your specific pregnancy
we can then give a better recommendation of when to do the second session
of this package. Same applies to the diamond package.
It is very important to book your session for newborn photography within
the first 14 days following birth. (Premature babies, may follow a
different pattern so please consult Sheri regarding recommendations on
To put this in numbers, newborn photography session
completed within the first 14 days average 40-50 pictures. Newborn sessions
completed after 14 days of birth average about 10-15 pictures, because much
more of your session time is spent calming the baby down. You should also
get an email detailing Do's and Don'ts to prepare for your newborn session.
It's VERY important to follow those instructions as they can greatly affect
the outcome. If you don't get an email, or have questions please consult with
Sheri prior to your appointment.
Not everyone has (or reads) email, so it's important we make these clear on
our website. Fortunately we have very few issues, but in order to ensure we
can keep our pricing structure for everyone and continue to offer the
highest quality services we need make these clear. These policies apply to
all sessions both for Ultrasound and Photography at our facility.
We require a 48 hr notice for all cancellations at our facility. This
allows us to rebook your session time, and allow someone else the
opportunity to come in and enjoy this incredible experience. This also
allows us to modify staff schedules so we don't get stuck paying staff for
sessions that aren't filled. If we receive less then a 48 hrs notice we
have a $50.00 cancellation fee, and future appointments will require an
advance non-refundable payment. The $50.00 fee will be waived if you rebook
and prepay at the time of cancelation.
Photography sessions are especially important because we have less of them
available, if you no show or give short notice for cancelation you may NOT
be given another opportunity to rebook even if you are willing to prepay. Also understand, Sheri puts an enormous amount of preparation into each
session. She is at the studio an hour early to up for your session and
make the temperature perfect & and is paying for child care for our two little children.
Because the photography sessions require so much time she can only do a few
in a day, so each is very critical and the reason we most likely will not
be able to reschedule you if you give anything less than a 48 hr notice.
NO show policy:
If you don't show up for your session or give less then
24hr notice, we will charge a $50.00 no show fee, AND require a full
non-refundable prepayment for any future services with our company.
Discount and return sessions:
If you have either a discount or a package
session (meaning your aren't paying anything or paying a reduced fee for
that session). You have one appointment spot for that session. If you
cancel or no show, your no charge/discount session will NOT be repeated.
You will be required to pay for any follow up appointments.
We ask people plan to be 10 minutes early for their session.
Please plan for traffic with you and your party. We tend to have pretty
tight appointment times, so if you are late we can't make major
concessions, but will do what we can to get you as much scan time as
possible. Please call ahead if your running late, if we have notice that
you are running late we will try to move someone else ahead so that you can
get your full scan time. We cannot wait for other members of your party who
are running late.
We always retain the right to make decisions on a per-case basis. Just be
aware while we are sympathetic to individual situations we have a larger
obligations to our other clients, so very few exceptions can be made.
Cell phones/ Cameras:
We ask that all people attending services please turn off or silence cell
phones during sessions. They can create interference with both scanning and
the lighting in photography and will reduce the quality of pictures you
receive. We also ask the people do NOT take pictures or video during the
sessions as it's distracting and also doesn't reflect the quality of the
work we do. We have CD's and DVD's available that you are welcome to share
Why these policies:
We don't have these policies to punish anybody. We have them because we put
a lot of effort into each session we do. We provide top quality equipment,
highly trained techs, support staff, and a beautiful, comfortable
environment. All of this requires significant investment so when we are not
give proper notice to rebook your session, we are still paying staff for
their time. In order to keep pricing where it is, we have to institute
these policies. *We don't want to let a few bad apples spoil things for the
majority of people who do nothing wrong.
We do NOT give refunds or guarantees for all the reasons we have
listed. This is something that so rarely comes up, it's hardly worth
mentioning. We cannot guarantee results, but we can guarantee we will do
our best in every situation and give you clear explanation as to what is
going on with each session. If you are within our recommendations and the
session is difficult will give you an option of a return no charge session.
If we feel that a return session may not be better, we reserve the right on
a case by case basis to offer a discount on other services.
To put this in numbers about 10% of sessions we do require some sort of
redo (mostly because of people booking sessions outside of our
recommendations). Of the redo session we do, about 70% of them get better
images. For the few that are very difficult we offer discounts on other
services, so we certainly do our best in every situation and understand
this is a big deal and we don't forget that.

Q: What if we want 3D/4D imaging but do NOT want to know the gender? *
That is no problem and we do that all the time with NO mistakes. We have large screens in the room for viewing. When people don't want gender, the tech will start with the scan with the screens off then map out the position of the baby. Once that is done, the screens are turned on and you get to see your bundle of joy and gender will not be shown.
Q: What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?
We offer elective 2D, 3D & 4D prenatal ultrasounds to provide a positive bonding experience for the mother, father and family members with the unborn baby. We feel that realistic surface images provide a connection between the parents and baby that can be beneficial to the whole family.
We make no claims that 3-D as used in this examination is performed to better assess the baby for abnormalities. A routine ultrasound examination must have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus and to evaluate for fetal anomalies as well as the basic components of fetal anatomy recommended for screening.
Q: Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor's office?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Women seeking an elective prenatal ultrasound with Enlightened 4D Imaging & Photography MUST provide be receiving treatment with a healthcare provider for prenatal care and have already undergone a medical, diagnostic ultrasound ordered by their provider to confirm their due date, screen for fetal anomalies, and to look for any other pregnancy related issues.
The issues that we are evaluating in the elective prenatal ultrasound session include a limited diagnostic scan to confirm heartbeat, the number of babies in the pregnancy, the position of the baby, and the placental location. Please note, at no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound.
Q: Is it safe? Are there any risks to me, or my baby?
Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout the United States. In 3D/4D scanning exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning. 3D and 4D Ultrasound both utilize sound waves to look inside the body. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. 4D ultrasound will be similar to a conventional scan in terms of exposure.
Q: Do I need an appointment?
Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services.
Q: How long does the 3D and 4D ultrasound take?
Depending on the package you choose, the 4D ultrasound session will last between 20 and 30 minutes. However, allow your self about an hour from the time you walk in until you walk out to ensure you don’t feel rushed.
Q: How far along should I be before I have a 4D ultrasound?
If you plan on having only one 4D ultrasound examination, we would recommend having the examination performed between the 24th and 32th week of the pregnancy. However, excellent images of your baby can be obtained anytime after about 22 weeks of pregnancy. Many mothers obtain more than one 4D ultrasound and have images to enjoy from their second and third trimesters.
Q: Will I always get a beautiful image of my baby?
Unfortunately there are no guarantees. There are things that are beyond our control. The babies position, the amount of amniotic fluid, and the mothers body type. We have an experienced sonographer who is innovative and this rarely becomes a problem. If it does happen we encourage you to come back another day. We want everyone to be totally satisfied.
Q: Will I have to pay if I am not satisfied with the results?
Our best customer is a happy one. We get more business from word of mouth then anything else. In the rare event the baby is in a position that does not allow for satisfactory pictures we'll make arrangements to have you try again.
Q: Can I bring my family and friends?
Absolutely, this is a family event. The more the merrier.
Q: Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?
Yes, in most cases we can provide an indication of the sex of the baby. We can't however guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as body tissue content, developmental stage and fetal position all affect the ability to determine sex.
Q: Is the 4D ultrasound covered by Insurance?
This is an elective procedure so they do not cover it. We do accept Mastercard, Visa, and cash. We cannot accept personal checks.
